Tried out my new commute by bus today after returning my rental car. Took me a good hour and a half to make it back home. Since I live on posh Mercer Island, not many people ride the bus here and only a few short buses serve the island. This commute reminds me of the ride from Scarborough to downtown Toronto or Shin-Tokorozawa to NTT at Higashi Fushimi. Unacceptable. I will have another rental car by Friday and next week, I move to a more bus-friendly place. I am determined to keep my commute under 30 minutes each way.

I ride the short-bus

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008My life here in Seattle is off to a good start. Met with my team today and I think I’m going to do alright here. Here are some pics of where I’m staying right now – in my corporate housing.
Last week was a long weekend with Friday being Independence Day here in the US. Sure missing Canada… Got some nice fireworks pictures to show you guys.
Some Vancouver friends (Co-op Japan) came down to visit my friend Brett and I. I was meaning to pay a visit up to Vancouver soon but they beat me to it. We went down to Seattle and Pike Place Farmer’s Market to soak in some of the famous attractions here.
To think the US is ahead…
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008I just found out that incoming calls on cellphones here cost money. From where I’m from and been, this is so backwards.
Got a lot of important things settled today:
1) Social Security Number
2) Bank Account
3) Cellphone Number
4) Getting American Credit (doing now)
Compared to the UK, things are going quite well. I don’t have anything to panic about.
Lost and Confused
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008I just spent the last 2 hours lost… well, I was in search for food. Ended up walking for 30 minutes to a supermarket, 10 minutes of shopping, then followed by 1 hour of waiting for a taxi – All for a bowl of clam chowder and some bread.
I am convinced that I need a car in Seattle. I should have taken the rental car at the airport.
